"When the COVID-19 pandemic erupted in the US, we took a pause as a company. We looked at the collection of products we were planning to launch and determined that we had to prioritize the immediate needs of people right now, in this new normal. Addressing real human needs is one of the tenets of our brand, and right now, people want to protect themselves and the people they love. One way to do that was to create an affordable, effective hand cleansing product," says Cal Chan, President of Trilogía.
"We wanted to do more than just white label something with a high percentage of alcohol because, at Trilogía, we know that plants and botanicals make everything better. Hand Cleanse is thoughtfully formulated with high-quality alcohol and infused with antimicrobial, antiviral, and antibacterial terpenes. These terpenes also have a host of aromatherapeutic, anti-inflammatory, and skin-calming benefits. Our spray smells like a walk in the woods—it's calming for both the mind and body."
Hand Cleanse × Masks for Good
The team at Trilogía decided to create Hand Cleanse after launching our Masks for Good PPE donation campaign, which delivers PPE to essential workers on the frontlines of the COVID-19 pandemic. "I couldn't sleep at night knowing I could be doing something to help people who were risking their lives to protect the people I care about," says Trilogía CEO Federico Tio. "Our small but mighty team of eight people, worked tirelessly to raise funds, source, and distribute more than 20,000 KN95 masks to healthcare workers across the country, and it felt so good to just give back. Helping people is one of the tenets of our company, and being able to do just that in a straightforward way was incredibly gratifying. That campaign became part of the fabric of our company, and we want to keep giving back as long as we can."
Because of this, Trilogía will donate a percentage of the profits from the sale of Hand Cleanse toward Masks for Good, so we can continue to support essential workers with personal protective equipment. This means, when you purchase Hand Cleanse, you're contributing to the safety of an essential worker. You can learn more about Masks for Good here.
Plants Make Everything Better—Our Ingredients
Hand Cleanse is made of 70% ethanol alcohol, which is proven to kill coronaviruses. The alcohol is sustainably sourced from California. Hand Cleanse was formulated and manufactured in Santa Cruz—with the help of biochemist Hardip Kalsi and our partners at S and V Labs.
"Terpenes are compounds that create the aromas and flavors in all plants—and they've been used for millennia for their vast healing properties. They're basically naturally occurring essential oils. And It was a no brainer to add these powerful plant compounds to our formulation. We also added aloe to calm and heal inflamed skin and offset the harsh drying effects of alcohol," says Kalsi.
"Moreover, some terpenes, like pinene, have been proven to help your brain shift from 5th gear to 1st gear, relieving stress, and helping to enhance your mood. It's the terpene pinene that you smell when you're out in the woods, and pinene is one of the reasons being in nature can be so calming. Infusing Hand Cleanse with this terpene was aimed at supporting both your mind and body. So if you're recovering from a stressful situation—which right now can be as minimal as a trip to the grocery store—you get the benefit of germ-killing alcohol, coupled with the comfort of aromatherapy to create an overall sense of calm."
Hand Cleanse: Terpene Profile
To recap: terpenes are naturally occurring botanicals in plants that create the scents and flavors of everything from the hoppy flavor of a beer to the calming quality of lavender. They're more than just lovely smelling compounds though, they have potent healing properties when used thoughtfully.
